Cold Oven Pound Cake

A Betty Feezor Recipe
2 and 1/2 sticks butter at room temperature
3 cups sugar
4 eggs at room temperature
3 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup milk
2 teaspoons of vanilla  (you could also use almond or lemon flavoring and it turns out great)
Cream butter and sugar together.  Add eggs one at a time.  Mix flour and baking powder.  Add vanilla or flavoring to milk.  Add flour mixture and milk mixture alternately.  Pour into greased and floured tube pan.  Place in COLD oven.  Turn heat to 325 degrees.  Bake one and one half to one and three quarter hours.  Let stand in pan 10 minutes before turning out.  ( I have seen it recommended many times that your butter and eggs should be at room temperature when baking a pound cake)
